A Weekend Recap

Last weekend Ian and visited the zoo in Munich. Ian had hinted several times as a birthday present he would love a year pass to the zoo; so that’s what he got. Saturday was probably our sixth time going but surprisingly our first time not indulging in chips. That is one tradition we are trying to abstain from.

We went to one of our favourite Italian restaurants near Sendlinger Tor - Pepenero (there are a few in Munich). It was quite busy and I was too shy to take photos of the food. Trust me it was delicious. I had a gorgonzola and spinach pizza and Ian ordered a Diavalo. Afterwards we walked towards the Isar, through our enchanting city, to meet our friends to watch a late night film.

Seeing as we were slightly early for ‘Straight Outta Compton’ in the quaint Lichtspiele Cinema, we ventured into dreigroschenkeller for a glass of wine and a beer. This is one of my favourite places to hide away from the cold, dark evenings. We sat huddled together in a romantic corner and watched the flames of the nearby candles flicker and dance. To be honest I would have gladly stayed there all evening but we had our tickets booked.

On Sunday, Ian and I woke up after nine and filled our tummies with blueberry pancakes (me) and poached eggs (Ian). We showered, dressed and caught the next train to Herrsching am Ammersee. We tackled quite a lung clearing hike up towards the Brewing monastery of Kloster Andechs.

After absorbing the stunning views of the surrounding area, we headed to a near by Biergarten and dined on some local beer and Bavarian delights. I keep it simple with tomato soup and a pretzel, while my lovely husband (much to his disgust afterwards) had veal lung. He thought that perhaps it was veal kidney but alas it wasn’t. So he definitely needed that second beer. We sat for hours and just enjoyed our simple Sunday afternoon.
